This is a cold reading of an experimental play I wrote at The Marfa Intensive (Marfa, TX). I was tasked to write a 10-minute show with over 15 specific requirements, in 3 days. The objective was to write using Anne Bogart's Viewpoints for the play structure. I wrote over 20 pages in one night, then revised it down to 10 pages (for time constraints). This play is not included in my repertoire, because it is an unusual format. Viewpoints is movement based, so over half of the play was stage directions. Reading it took twice as long as performing it would have. From this strange and wonderful assignment, I was able to develop a greater understanding of how to achieve dramatic stage action in my playwriting. I was the only person at the intensive asked to write a script, during our final days in Marfa. The experience affected me profoundly and continues to influence my work.
