Bio

Theatre artist C.C. Lawrence (she/they) offers a unique skill set of combining method, theory, and a spectrum of theatre-adjacent abilities for use in and out of dramatic spaces. Her ideology adapts paratheatrical experiences to sharpen neurological functioning. Forging an interdisciplinary path with a career outlook toward drama therapy research and practice, she writes (and occasionally performs) for local theatres, festivals, and other sectors seeking to incorporate theatricality as a tool for personal and professional development. She stays active in the community art scene - writing, directing, and performing fringe plays that swelter from West Texas esotericism.

After obtaining an A.A. in Sociology, C.C. Lawrence worked several years as a graphic designer and volunteered with the Lubbock Rape Crisis Center. In May 2026, she graduated from Texas Tech University summa cum laude, earning a B.A. in Theatre Arts and a B.A. in Psychology. She is driven to integrate joy, pain, writing, research, and healthcare into dynamic entertainment that strengthens communities. C.C. is grateful for every person in her life who has supported her on this path. She looks forward to a lifetime of building up her community through artistic expression and cognitive growth.

Some Cool Stuff:

As a playwright, she has had her work performed at Frontier Fest 2024, Plays on Tap, First Friday Art Trail, and The EDGE Theatre. She has been published in The Harbinger: A Journal of Art & Literature and in program notes for Texas Tech University (dramaturg) and The EDGE Theatre (writer, director, and dramaturg).

As a psychology student, she contributed to a research project presentation for the Midwestern Psychological Association 2026 conference. It was about pornography.

In summer 2024, C.C. collaborated with her six-year-old daughter to write, design, direct, and act in a short play titled, Mommy-Bot: To Be Performed with Your Child, at the First Friday Art Trail in Lubbock, Texas. Coincidentally, this was also her first engagement with artivism, performing near the show that was under attack by Christian Nationalists. C.C. Lawrence is naturally a supporter of equal rights and a proponent for freedom of expression. They share those values with their daughter.

Immediately following completion of Mommy-Bot, C.C. attended The Marfa Intensive – a rigorous, two-week-long devised theatre intensive in Marfa, Texas with students from Texas Tech University and Bilkent University (Ankara, Turkiye). This experience proved to be pivotal in developing a future as an integrative, complex artist focused on how the human psyche benefits from radical art exchange.

She assisted David Priebe (co-instructor and director) and Sean Allen Jones (co-instructor and producer) with Drama Classes for Individuals in Recovery in Fall 2024. She wrote scripts using devised material from the class, performed, and served as dramaturg for The Recovery Play on the EDGE The theatre forum (Theatre of the Oppressed) opened in January 2025 and was received very well by the community, including a news broadcast and an unprecedented sold-out crowd on the final performance night.

In Fall 2025, she took on the role as co-instructor and director, in addition to playwright. The 2nd Annual Recovery Play on the EDGE opened Feb. 2026 to even bigger audiences. This work we do is important (and so much fun)!

In summer 2026, The EDGE Theatre elected C.C. to serve on their Board of Directors while she continues her work as an instructor, writer, and director. Lately, her focus has been on agitprop theatre.

Oh, and she's in grad school.
