The Lubbock OBGYN Crisis
Performance Artivism
October 20, 2026

On October 20, 2026 I protested shirtless at Texas Tech University for an end to the attacks on women's healthcare, specifically in my city. On my torso is written "I'M READY TO BE SEEN NOW"
The crisis is explained on the bricks:

THE LUBBOCK OB-GYN CRISIS
UMC vs. TTUHSC in a “turf war” over women’s health in Lubbock!
Dr. Amber Coon speaks out after being bullied by TTUHSC.
UMC backs her statements and calls it a crisis.
TTUHSC disputes UMC. TTUHSC says access improving because of recent recruitment efforts; 15 new doctors over past two years are “getting into play” to be approved by the board.
Dr. Coon disagrees, says access is only getting worse.
There is a debate over replacement physicians receiving faculty appointments. TTUHSC controls this.
Why do physicians need that faculty appointment to begin with? Especially if it blocks doctors from working.
Pregnant women are unable to get care.

MY OB-GYN CRISIS
No, I’ve never had CHLAMYDIA. (IG: @Chlamydia.dellArte)
That’s just a joke on Commedia dell’Arte and “Raider Rash.”
Not to brag, but I have never had an STD or an unwanted pregnancy because I enforce condom use.
I do, however, have a cyst on my cervix.
A doctor didn’t tell me that.
I found it recently, while masturbating.
Female Masturbation is Preventative Care.

Before this, I was urinating
on expensive sticks
for an expensive app
to test my hormones
every day for several months.
Because a nurse finally recommended it.
Insurance does not cover it.

When I finally got the referral
because I could prove I had a medical need.
It was to an unaffiliated clinic
that did not accept my insurance.
When I tried to get another referral
I was ignored. Twice.

I get the run-around about my health
because I am a woman. We are conditioned to accept this.
But my right to medical access had never been ignored before.
Even with paying out-of-pocket,
Even with more evidence than required for diagnosis,
Even with a very simple solution to my issue,
I was ignored.

Thank you, Dr. Amber Coon
for bringing attention to the
intolerable medical abuse,
the profits over people,
and the perceived disposability
of all women in Lubbock, Texas.
Now I understand why I was unable to get care,
and I am very angry about all of this.

Abortion restrictions cause preventable deaths.
Sharp rises seen in sepsis, infant death, pregnancy-associated death, breast cancer death, and cervical cancer death.
50% jump in sepsis rate for second-trimester Texans.
As always, they attack the black community harder.
Black infant mortality rates 11% above expected levels.
But they want all of our bodies. Control past reproduction.
They think we are nothing. They think they can ignore us.
They want us to become invisible.

But WE ARE ALL JANE DOE.
We are not nothing. We are the creators of life.
They cannot ignore us. We control the future.
We will not become invisible. We are organizing.
And we know our enemy is afraid of this.
“I AM JANE DOE!”, “I AM JANE DOE!”...
Be afraid.
